Therapy for Adult ADHD

It’s Not about

Trying Harder

If you or your partner has ADHD, you may be noticing that it affects your relationship.

Your relationship was wonderful in the early days, especially when the ADHD partner was still hyper-focused on the relationship. Neither of you can quite believe it has descended into a tension-filled battle of wills.

Many partners say they feel stuck in an unhealthy dynamic, with one person feeling blamed and shamed for not doing enough or trying harder (often despite their best efforts) and the other feeling exhausted and resentful from doing more than their share.

It is really difficult to manage each person’s frustrations and regulate emotions, so when you try to talk and work it out together, conflict escalates quickly and nothing gets resolved. Or worse, it’s already got to the stage where you never even try to talk about it anymore. It’s too painful, so you shut down or walk away.

You both feel lonely and misunderstood in the relationship, and you long for the days when you felt like a team who could conquer the world together.

Don’t despair! Things can get better. Using a combination of talk therapy, practical strength-based strategies and education, you can rebuild your relationship and feel like a team again.

Whether you are partnered or not, if you want to understand your ADHD better so that you can harness the useful aspects and manage the more challenging parts, I can help you with that too.

Therapy for adults with ADHD, or partnered with somebody who has ADHD, is available online throughout California, Delaware, Florida and Vermont.
