Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions many people have when they start therapy.

If you have not found the answer to your particular question on this page or elsewhere on my website, please contact me before booking your first appointment.

  • I am an out-of-network provider, so I am not paneled with any insurance companies and payment is due at the time of service. You can pay by credit card, HSA or FSA card.

Some PPO plans offer reimbursement for out of network mental health services. Please check with your provider to find out if reimbursement will be an option for the type of therapy you are seeking. If so, I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance.

  • My current rate for a 50-minute individual or couples session is $200. A 50-minute family therapy session is $225.

  • My cancellation policy requires a 48-hour notice via email, text message, or via your client portal. Appointments canceled less than 48 hours before your scheduled appointment will incur the full session fee.

  • Virtual therapy gives me and my clients the flexibility to attend an appointment from any location in California, Delaware, Vermont or Florida. All you need is a private space, free from distractions, and a decent wifi connection on the device of your choice.

I am licensed in the state of California and also registered as a telehealth provider with the states of Delaware, Florida and Vermont. Therefore the clients that I treat must also be located in one of those states at the time of service. I cannot conduct a virtual appointment to clients in a different location unless that state's licensing board grants temporary permission. Rules for providing international therapy will vary by region. For more information about out-of-state telehealth providers in Florida, please click here: https://flhealthsource.gov/telehealth/

  • I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for individuals (EFIT) or couples (EFCT). However, I also treat each person as a unique individual, so therapy with me is tailored and adapted to what works best for you. It is my job to get to know and understand you so that I can help you to achieve your therapy goals.

  • That depends on many factors, including your presenting issues, your therapy goals and your level of engagement with the process. On average, clients stay in therapy from a few months to a year or more. You are under no obligation to attend any particular number of sessions and you can end therapy whenever you like. All I ask is that you attend consistently while you are in therapy.

I recommend that all of my clients plan to attend once per week. I find this the most beneficial for my clients. The only times that I might recommend a different frequency would be:

    a) During a time of acute crisis, more frequent sessions might be warranted.

    b) When therapy is almost concluded and goals are largely met, a step-down in frequency to every other week or a monthly check-in might be appropriate.

  • To preserve your confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries, I will not respond to messages or requests to connect on social media. You are welcome to follow my professional pages for updates about my practice if you choose.
